Everything Has an Expiration: Carmella Garcia's RHOC Season 20 Journey

Oct 3, 2026 · @Tantrumsandtaglines

The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 20 was supposed to belong to Vicki Gunvalson. The OG of the OC came back for the franchise's big anniversary, ready to reclaim her crown. Then a newcomer named Carmella Garcia walked in and stole the season. She admitted early on that she was "probably" the one who caused the most drama, and she delivered.

With the reunion filmed on October 2, here's a look back at Carmella's first season, from a cold welcome to one of the best reads in recent Housewives history.

Who is Carmella Garcia?

Few Housewives arrive with a résumé like hers. Carmella grew up in Ohio and moved to Los Angeles at 18 to model. She went on to become a Playboy Playmate, appeared on The Girls Next Door, and later wrestled for WWE. Today she's a real estate broker and developer with The Oppenheim Group, the brokerage from Selling Sunset.

She married former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia in 2007. They separated in 2020 and share four teenage children, though they're still legally married. She splits her time between Corona del Mar and Rancho Santa Fe, and she came into the group through Jennifer Pedranti, calling herself a girls' girl.

The Vicki feud

Things with Vicki started badly. In the premiere, Emily joked that Carmella would have to bow to "Queen Victoria," and Carmella didn't laugh. Vicki called her "Carmella DeVille" in the trailer, said she found her inconsistent, and kept questioning her parenting and even whether she really lives in Rancho Santa Fe.

The breaking point came in Episode 12. When Vicki's comments got back to her, Carmella confronted her at dinner and pointed out that Vicki was new this year too. Vicki reminded everyone she started the franchise. Carmella replied, "Everything has an expiration." Instant tagline.

Even her castmates sided with her: Heather called it a good line, Emily called it an appropriate response, and Shannon said Carmella had every right to be upset. Carmella later said she "popped off" and stands by it. She also admitted she'd hoped they'd become friends.

Love, Danny and putting herself first

The drama wasn't only with Vicki. Early in the season, Carmella introduced fans to Danny Hampel, her on-and-off partner of 10 years, and was open about their struggles and about co-parenting with Jeff without a custody agreement. The relationship didn't survive. She has since said she ended it because she needed to put herself first, and that watching it play out on screen was the hardest part of the season.

It also explains why Vicki's comment that Danny was "raising" her kids hit so hard. For Carmella, the fight with Vicki was about her family, not a newbie hazing.

Allies, enemies and the reunion standoff

Carmella didn't do it alone. She has called Jenn and Tamra amazing support, and fans loved seeing her and Tamra dance together. Heather was another story: Carmella has talked about how much Heather's comments about her hurt.

The reunion was filmed in Los Angeles on October 2. Carmella sits to Andy Cohen's right with Tamra, Heather and Jenn, while Vicki sits across from her on the left side of the couch. Carmella has said there's been little resolution with Vicki, that she isn't asking for an apology, and that she went in without overpreparing, ready to deal with things as they come up. Expect a standoff.

The verdict

Newcomers usually spend their first season trying to fit in. Carmella didn't. She stood up to the OG, kept her private life honest, and walked away from a 10-year relationship to put herself first. Whether she becomes a fan favourite or a lightning rod, she made Season 20 hers.

And she gave Bravo fans the tagline of the season. Everything has an expiration, except a good read.
